AI Won't Substitute Coaching. It May Expose Coaches Who Refuse to Evolve

AI is not going to substitute coaching. I want to state that plainly, because there's a lot of anxiety in this industry right now, and most of it isn't warranted.

But I do think AI may expose the coaches who refuse to evolve, and that distinction matters a great deal.

What it already does well

AI can help with preparation before a session, follow-up after one ends, general organisation of a practice, content creation, administration, and personalisation of the client experience in ways that used to require far more manual effort.

That's real, practical friction, genuinely removed. Not a theoretical benefit.

That shouldn't scare great coaches. If anything, it should free them. Every hour that used to go into administrative overhead is an hour that can go back into the actual craft of coaching. Into deeper preparation. Into more thoughtful follow-up. Into simply having more capacity for the clients who need it.

What it does not do

The value of coaching itself is still deeply, unmistakably human. Trust built over time. Judgement exercised in a difficult moment. A challenge delivered with enough care that it actually lands instead of causing someone to shut down. Perspective that comes from lived experience. And presence, the simple act of being fully there with another person in a way a model cannot replicate.

None of that is going anywhere, no matter how sophisticated the underlying technology gets.

Let AI handle the friction, so the coach can stay focused on owning the human moment, which was always the actual job.
